DEA to Control Pharmaceuticals
The federal Court of Appeals in Boston lias granted the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) the authority to control prescription drug manufacture under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. The agency had ordered manufacturers, to reduce by 6l6kilograms the amount of phenmera2ine (Preludin), a widely used diet pill. In rg.ling against the manufacturer, Ciba-Geigy Corp., the court gave the DEA the power to set manufacturing quotas for drugs it feels are being extensively diverted to the illicit market.»
