Canada Kills Decrim
In the four years, since John Munro. then minister of health, said reduction of cannabis sentences would be given a high priority by the government, hopes for reduced penalties for simple possession of marijuana in Canada have died. Privy Council President Mitchell Sharp announced last September that the bill no longer has priority and will be killed at the end of the fall session of the legislature. It will not be reintroduced until, at least some time in 1977,Shaip revealed. The bill would have set the maximum penally at a $500 fine, instead of the current $1,000 and/or six months in jail
