ultivating mushroom mycelium in a laboratory is tantamount to not cultivating contaminants. Diagnosing the source of contamination, and the vector or pathway through which contaminants travel is the key to tissue culture. Over the years, I have identified 6 distinct and separate vectors of contamination. If a contaminant a ises in the laboratory, the cultivator should examine each vector category as being the possible cause of the problem. Through a process of elimination, the distressed cultivator can determine the vector through which the contaminants are spread. Once discovered, the vector can be closed, and the threat eliminated. If one vector is open, then a multitude of contaminants pass through it, often times confounding the diagnoses of inexperienced cultivators.
