Greenhouse and Grow Room Production

Most Cannabis presently used for medical purposes is grown indoors under artificial lights. Modern indoor growers most often grow their own clones under halide and sodium vapor light systems set up in attics, bedrooms, or basements. Crops grown from seed are typically made up of large male and female plants that require a lot of space and exhibit a wide range of physical and biochemical characteristics. A Cannabis breeder relies on this variation as genetic potential for improving varieties, whereas a drug Cannabis producer wants a profitable and uniform crop and uses female clones to improve grow room yields. Consequently, vegetative production of female clones and the production of seedless flowers preclude the possibility of seed production and variety improvement. Vegetatively propagated crops are preferred because indoor garden space is limited, only female Cannabis plants produce resin of medical value, and it is both inconvenient and expensive to purchase reliable drug Cannabis...

Hydroponics Pros and Cons

Now that we've dispelled a few of the common myths about hydroponics, you should also be aware of the major benefits of using this fantastic growing technology as well as some of the drawbacks. There are a number of advantages when using hydroponic production systems. Most importantly, hydroponics makes it possible to produce high quality marijuana in locations where it couldn't normally be grown in soil. In addition, hydroponics can increase product quality and makes more efficient use of resources such as space, water and plant nutrients. Hydroponic production often allows higher crop yields from smaller areas. Plant density is limited only by available light under controlled conditions. Plants can mature faster and more evenly under a soilless hydroponics system than under soil production. You can harvest some strains of marijuana up to six times per year under the most ideal conditions. Soil-borne insect and disease problems are reduced under soilless production systems. There are...

Hydroponics Nutrients

This is the most important part of your hydroponics set-up. Your mix and the choice of nutrients will depend on whether your plant will die, grow, grow big, or grow very very big. Nutrient solutions basically come in a number of different forms. It is vital to check that the solution you use is the best for your type of plant. Some solutions are for soil and can only be used with soil. They contain the wrong elements for hydroponics use. There are soil-based supplements fertilizers and then there are hydroponics nutrients. Most hydroponics nutrient solutions are complete nutrient solutions. They provide every element and compound needed for proper plant growth. Because of this hydroponics nutrients are a bit steep in price. Always spend your money on the correct nutrients because any short cuts will lead to failure and kill your plant.

Cannabis And Hydroponics

Growing in hydroponics is not rocket science. It is a simple process which can vary from system to system depending on what kind of a set-up you choose. Most of the nutrient mixes are explained extremely well on the packs. If you follow their instructions and remember that Cannabis only needs 30 -50 strength nutrients then you will do just fine.

Cleaning The Grow Room

It does happen that sometimes the bugs win. No matter how much you might spray them or try to kill them, they keep coming back to your grow room. To solve this you will have to create a clean room, which means a total and complete cull of your harvest. First set-up another grow room of smaller size enough to support some cuttings and clones. Take cuttings from what plants you have and move the cuttings to that room. You will use the cuttings again eventually in your clean grow room if you want to continue those strains. Back to the grow room. First start with the walls. Clean the walls down with bleach if you can. You will maybe have to paint them again after. Do the corners, up high and clean out any holes, extraction holes, fittings, pipes, etc. Then clean around the rim of the room. If your floor can be lifted up then you can also do this to get in at the Electrical items should be dusted down before returning them to the grow room. Dry down your other grow equipment which was...

Twentytwo Large Grow Rooms

The first photo was taken in the vegetative growth stage when the plants were about a foot (30 cm) tali, just before they were induced to flower. The garden is in the corner of a spare bedroom and illuminated by two 400-watt metal halide lamps. Clones were transplanted into three-gallon (11L) containers of soilless mix. Note the small envelopes of beneficial insects clipped to the containers on the lower left. A web of drip emitters delivers nutrient solution to this hydroponic rockwool garden. Irrigating such a garden by hand would surely break stems and destroy foliage. Note that this modular trough hydroponic garden is set up on sawhorses. The troughs nest inside one another and the sawhorses collapse, making the garden quick to assemble, disassemble, and stow in a small space. Active Hydroponic Systems

The aerated water system is probably the most complex of the hydroponic systems, and because it allows the least margin for error, it should be used only by growers with previous hydroponic experience. To put together an aerated water system, you must first construct a clear air channel in your container. This is done they are two weeks old. Cuttings and rooted cuttings can also be planted in hydroponic units.

Soilless mix

Soilless mix is a combination of several different natural ingredients. These mixes contain a vast assortment of ingredients, but usually contain things like sphagnum moss, Vermiculite and Perlite. Soilless mixes are usually considered organic and have very fine particles that can clog pumps and drip emitters if you don't use a good filtration system. Most soilless mixes retain water well and have great wicking ability while still holding a good amount of air, making them a good growing medium for a variety of hydroponic and organic gardens.

The Grow Rooms

In order to create a continuous supply of medicine, you need the ever-important Grow Rooms. But don't be intimidated by the word rooms. You won't have to put an addition on your house to grow medical marijuana. Grow Rooms can be practically any self-contained area or space. For a continuous harvest, you'll need three of these rooms because eventually you'll have three crop rotations going simultaneously, each in different stages of growth, each requir- Although outdoor plants can reach 10-to-12 feet, your indoor plants will range from 3 or 4 feet-to-a few inches. All houses have several potential grow rooms cleverly disguised as closets. I know highly successful growers who grow the best medicine using nothing but closets, attics, basement cubby holes, metal garden sheds, second bathrooms, and kitchen cabinets. One of them shares his walk-in closet with his Mother Plant. What could be more creative and ironic than converting a dusty 1950s bomb shelter into a medical marijuana grow...

Hydroponics Systems

Hydroponics pH

After you have mixed up your nutrient solution you will want to take a pH reading of it. If you have any problems, just like in soil growing, you will need to adjust your pH level. Now, you do not use the same method to adjust pH levels as described in the soil chapter. For hydroponics you need to buy a pH Up and pH Down adjusting Cannabis plants in a soil system like a pH of 7, but in hydroponics systems they like a pH of 5.2 to 6.3. You will discover it is easier to maintain a pH range and not a set level. Figure 9.15 pH up and pH down products for hydroponics use. Figure 9.15 pH up and pH down products for hydroponics use. Always check your hydroponics pH level as often as you can. pH can slip up and down very quickly in hydroponics systems.

Soilless Mixes

Soilless mixes are popular, inexpensive, lightweight, inert, and sterile growing mediums. Premixed commercial soilless mixes are an excellent value. They retain moisture and air while allowing good drainage, strong root penetration, and even growth. Fertilizer concentration, moisture level, and pH are very easy to control. Unless fortified with nutrient, soilless mixes contain no nutrients and are pH balanced near 6.0 to 7.0. 50 compost 50 compost 50 soilless mix 50 coco coir 33 compost 33 soilless mix 33 coco coir 33 compost 33 soilless mix 16 worm castings 16 perlite

About Grow Rooms

Clone Setup For Marijuana

The best location for a grow room is in an obscure corner of a basement, where the temperature is easy to keep constant year round. Basements are well insulated by concrete walls and soil, A basement room can be enclosed and camouflaged with junk, a double wall, workbench, or shelving. Added security is afforded by installing a false door in a closet. The grow room is located behind the secret door. Another good secret location, except for the possible heat build-up, is the attic. Few people venture to an attic that is difficult to access. Some growers locate their gardens below a trapdoor covered with a rug. Although less common, there are even grow rooms on wheels Some innovative growers have remodeled trailer houses and buses into grow rooms. One of my favorite grow rooms was in a tricked-out trailer. Another was in a 60-foot (18 m) sailing yacht The grow room's size determines the size and the number of lamps. High intensity discharge (HID) lamps that work well to grow marijuana...

Hydroponic Systems

Passive hydroponic systems rely on capillary action to transfer the nutrient solution passively from the reservoir to the growing medium. The Dutch are masters of passive systems and achieve amazing results. Wick systems have no moving parts. Low initial cost and low maintenance enhance wick systems' popularity. Active hydroponic systems actively move the nutrient solution, which is usually recovered. Cannabis is a fast-growing plant and very well suited to active hydroponic systems. Ebb and flow (flood and drain) hydroponic systems Top-feed hydroponic systems meter nutrient solution in specific doses via spaghetti tubing or an emitter placed at the base of individual plants. Aerated nutrient solution flows into the growing medium and is taken up by roots. The runoff nutrient solution is directed back to the reservoir as soon as it drains from the growing medium. Problems with Nitrogen being locked out by PH troubles

Nitrogen is a very important element in the plant, all of them are but some are more important than others. For soil the best pH to have is 6.8. Why Because at 6.8, that's the best number for ALL available nutrients to be absorbed into the plant without any of them being locked out. For hydro and soil less mediums best pH to have is around 5.8.

Marijuana Horticulture The Indoor Outdoor

Step Six Ideally, the floor should be concrete or a smooth surface that can be swept and washed down. A floor drain is very handy. In grow rooms with carpet or wood floors, a large, white painter's drop cloth or thick, white Visqueen plastic, will protect floors from moisture, Trays placed beneath each container add protection and convenience. guess, and maybe figure it out before a fungus attacks and the plant dies. When a hygrometer is installed before plants are brought into the grow room, the horticulturist will know from the start when the humidity is too high and causing sickly growth.

The light cycle under artificial light

To come back to the issue of light hours. In considering the number of hours that you plan to give your plants each day, you must take good account of the conditions outdoors. Besides the fact that during the night electricity is cheaper to use (for the growers among you who pay for their electricity), there is also the fact that in summer especially, it is easier to keep the temperature in our grow room constant (ideally between 24 and 27 C), than if we let the lamps shine during the day. Particularly if we are growing in the attic or in a shed, when the sun shines pretty much directly on the grow space, then the sun can be a really annoying factor due to its ability to raise the temperature in the grow space considerably. time temperature outdoors in the summer months can easily be 15 C. This can contribute considerably to the level of the temperature indoors, and so the plants will thank us for choosing to let the lamps do their work at night (so that we can with a bit of luck keep...

Indoor And Outdoor Growing

Figure 3.9 - Indoor Grow room picture by Shipperke. Figure 3.9 - Indoor Grow room picture by Shipperke. the year you can still find it hard to produce big buds indoors under natural light. Some people have grown plants under an attic window that they open during the dry days. This will grow you bud but not as much as you would get using an artificial light system. The other side of the coin is that natural light is free, electricity is not and grow lights are a little bit expensive to buy and use. They are definitely not as expensive as it is to run an electric cooker 24 hours a day but they are little expensive to use all the same. If you are growing indoors then you may have a room or part of a room that you wish to use such as an attic, closet, basement, spare bathroom or hot press. These locations nearly always need artificial light. You may even decide to build a cabinet yourself. There are many ways to set-up an indoor grow room. We will discuss this later in detail. Figure 3.11...

Lighting Systems Components

This section provides a brief description for all of the components of an HID lamp. Subsequent sections provide in-depth information on the various types of each component to help you which system(s) you need for your grow room. Each type of horticulture bulb works in a different way, but they are all designed to provide plants with intense light in the correct color spectrum to replace the light they normally receive from the sun. Different types of bulbs can be used during different growth phases to give plants the correct color spectrum for that particular phase. Choosing the right wattage and type of bulb is one of the most important factors you must consider when buying equipment for your grow room. Most popular lighting systems are available with air-cooling flanges as an add-on feature. Air ducting is fastened to the flanges and a venting fan is connected to the other end of the tubing. Air-cooling keeps your grow room cooler by exhausting the heat emitted by the bulb out of...

Indoor or outdoor growing

By starting with growing outdoors you will build up a wealth of knowledge that will serve you later if and when you start to grow indoors. The great outdoors is in short the ideal grow room for beginners, who will be enjoy the many surprises they will encounter as they help their plants to thrive. Especially if you plant your babies in solid earth, when you will have little else to except sit around on your lazy butt and wait for them to ripen for harvest air moisture content can be reached by installing an air humidifier, and a good air flow by putting one or more ventilators in your grow room.

Wkj Airflow is Important

Good air flow design also helps lower grow room temperature by exchanging air heated by grow lamps with cooler air from outside the room. Good airflow also maintains moderate humidity to keep the grow area dry. Keeping humidity in check can help reduce mold on flowers and walls and retard algae on growing mediums. Fresh air from outside the grow room is an important source of CO2 when gardens are grown without CO2 enrichment. You should first consider your rooms air intake source. This can be a simple as a hole in the wall or an air intake fan connected via ducting. Oscillating fans are essential components of a grow room because they help to circulate air from the intake source throughout the room, making CO2 available to all of your plants. Oscillating fans also help maintain the correct garden temperature throughout the grow space by sending fresh, mild temperature air throughout the room. Additionally, oscillating fans discourage pest and disease problems and encourage stronger...

GROW BIG HYDROPONIC CONCENTRATE, which is fast absorption. (FFGB can bring your pH down as well) Earth Juice Meta-K, which is fast acting. (Can bring down your pH as well) Leaves will never recover, but the plant will show recovery after about 4 to 5 days when using a fast acting nutrient.

What To Look For When Buying A Light

Lights that are air-cooled (Figure 5.12) tend to last longer and do not heat up your grow area that much. Most expert growers like to keep a room at a stable controllable temperature and use these air-cooled lights to achieve that. If your light is not air-cooled then you will have to build an air vent and fan in your grow room wall to keep the temperatures under control. Cannabis leaves will burn if placed too close to a HID light.

Exhaust Faio and Ducting System

Fans are rated in either cubic feet (CFM) or cubic meters per minute in North America. That means a 70 CFM fan will move 70 cubic feet of air in one minute. Your fan should be big enough to move the volume of your grow room two to three times every minute. For example, a 70 CFM fan would be adequate for a 35 cubic foot area and would be optimal for roughly a 23 cubic foot area. Your exhaust fans should be placed at the far end of your grow room and away from the air intake source. If the fan can be mounted, it should be placed near the top of the grow room so that the hottest air is removed from the area first.

Lighting Factors And How To Get The Most From Your Light

A substance which looks like a tin foil sheet, called Mylar (Fig. 5.15), is very popular in cannabis grow rooms. Instead of using white walls you can use this reflective alternative. Most DIY and hardware stores will sell it in roles. Figure 5.16 - Mylar in the grow room by Shipperke Figure 5.16 - Mylar in the grow room by Shipperke

Planting and Maintenance

Start clones in rockwool, Jiffy, or soilless grow cubes for three weeks, and then transplant into four-inch (10 cm) pots of organic soil mix. Water transplants heavily to encourage root growth. Grow under an HID or CF lamp for two weeks. Harden-off before moving outside into the garden or secret garden.

How far away from my plants do the lights go

The lights in your grow room should be as close as possible to the plants without burning them. There is no such thing as too much, unless there is sufficient heat to dry out and burn the leaves. A good rule is to put your hand under the light, if its too hot for your hand, chances are that the plants will be too, so move the light up until your hand feels more comfortable. For seedlings and clones, I keep them a little further away from the light, because they are very susceptible to burning and drying out, at these stages.

Approximate light production

There are some incandescents which are sold as 'grow lights.' They usually have a blue coating and usually come in 60W and 120W sizes. While they may seem like a good choice to new growers, they are next to useless they produce some light at a usable spectrum, but only have about a 5 efficiency and generate more heat than usable light. Most of us have these in our homes right now. Don't use them for growing instead opt for a Compact Fluorescent as a cheaper but more efficient alternative.

High Pressure Sodium Systems

All HP sodium vapor lamps have their own unique ballast. High pressure sodium lamps are manufactured by GE (Lucalox), Sylvania (Lumalux), Westinghouse (Ceramalux), Philips (Son Agro), Iwasaki (Eye), and Venture (High Pressure Sodium), American growers use 1000 and 600-uvatt HP sodiums most often, while European growers love 400 and 600-watt HPS lamps.

Monitoring Recycle Systems

If you do not have a reader you can still grow a good crop, but it takes practice to get it right. If a cannabis hydroponics grower does not have a ppm reader, then they tend to replace the reservoir more often instead of topping it up. That way the grower is certain that the new solution will contain everything the plant needs. If you have a ppm reader then you only need to top off the reservoir as needed. PPM (parts per millionth) readers can be expensive, but over time they will help you save money on the cost of hydroponics nutrients.

Caution Dry perlite produces an obnoxious dust Wet it down before using it

GRAVEL - holds a little water on its surface and loosens soil. It is heavy and tends to sink in the medium. It is sometimes used alone in hydroponic mixes. LAVA - holds water on its irregular surface and holes in its structure. It is lighter weight than gravel. It is sometimes used as a hydroponic medium. Clay pellets are sometimes used in place of lava because they are lighter weight Pea size pieces are the best to use.

Measuring Moisture Levels

Hydroponically grown plants take up nutrients as they need them from the nutrient solution. A nutrient solution left alone will end up lacking key nutrients, with a build-up of toxic levels of other key nutrients. Plants grown hydroponically can harm themselves with nutrient deficiencies, lockouts and overdoses, if they are allowed to feed without some oversight on their food bowl.

Grounding your Electrical Equipment

The most important part in wiring your grow room is a good ground connection. Transient electrical currents can occur when a bare wire or terminal screw touches a metal component of your system. Transient currents will travel through the path of least electrical resistance. If you have your ground wire terminated to the metal part of a component and the other end spliced to the ground of your three wire power supply, then the current will follow that path instead of going through your body.

Grow Cabinets Closets and Rooms

This chapter is where you put it all together to set up your grow room(s) and cultivate the best crop in the world Before you set up the room, you will need to determine how much to grow. Afterward you must decide on the location, size, and your budget. Of course, you will need tools and construction supplies to set up the room. The size of the grow room will dictate how much you can grow. Size depends upon your personal needs and desires. The size of the grow space dictates the type, wattage, and number of lamps. The most efficient lights with the highest lumens-per-watt conversion include CFLs and HIDs. The location of the grow room sets the stage for the water, air, growing system, and lights in the grow room. The essentials include a convenient electrical outlet to supply power to the room, and an air exhaust outlet preferably one that goes outside the building to vent the exhaust air from the growroom(s). A basement is a great location for a grow space. The temperature and...

Prohibition With Civil Penalties eg Fines And Administrative Sanctions General remarks

As to small-scale cultivation and trafficking offences in some of these jurisdictions. There is no uniformity in the eligible amounts of cannabis for these civil penalty provisions, or in the fines imposed. Thus, at the time of writing, fines ranged from A50 to A200 per offence. The amount of harvested cannabis eligible for an infringement or expiation notice ranged from 30 grams in Western Australia to 100 grams in South Australia. Plant limits ranged from 2 plants (hydroponic or not) in the Northern Territory to 1 non-hydroponic plant in South Australia. However, over recent years in some jurisdictions there have been reductions in the number of plants and exclusion of hydroponic cultivated plants from the infringement notice schemes. For example, South Australia's original 10 (hydro or non-hydro) plant limit was reduced to 3 plants in 1999 (reflecting concerns about increases in yield due to increases in hydroponic cultivation), to 3 plants and further down to 1 plant in 2000, and...

Gulfing Equipment Discreetly

Marijuana odor is always the main concern of growers, but many overlook the signals they give off when they buy equipment and transport it into their homes. After you have done all of your research and grow room planning, you need to decide how you will purchase the equipment and get it into your home without anyone taking notice.

The Ebb And Flow Or Flood System

The flood system is the method most people picture when hydroponics is mentioned. The containers are periodically flooded and then drained. Construction of a manual unit is easy. Imagine a tray with a flexible drain tube on the bottom. The tube is held up in the plug position. Water pours into the tray until the containers are flooded. The reservoir, often a water jug, is placed back into position so that it can catch the drain water. Then the tube is placed back into the drain position.

Step Eight Install a Circulation

Air circulation is necessary in all grow rooms, especially during flowering. Usually air circulation must be increased with a circulation fan or fans. Small clip-on oscillating fans come in very handy to circulate air in small grow rooms. They are easy to move and direct air where needed. Or you can mount an inexpensive oscillating fan to the ceiling or buy an actual wall-mounted fan. See the fan size table in Chapter 9 to help you choose the proper circulation fan(s) for your room.

Install a Thermometer HygrometerFan mounted Wlth bungee cords

Install at least one maximum minimum thermometer hygrometer in your grow room to measure temperature and humidity. I prefer the digital models because they are relatively accurate and easy to use. Calibrate them against 1 or 2 other thermometer hygrometers so they remain accurate. Place the thermometer hygrometer equidistant between the ceiling and floor, and fasten to the wall or hang from a string. circulation fan You can control the climate in most grow rooms with a vent fan attached to a timer or a rheostat. See Air Temperature and Humidity in Chapter 9 for more information. Personally inspecting the meter and plants daily will help you gain experience and learn exactly how much ventilation the room needs to keep the temperature about 75 F (24 C) day and 65 -70 F (18 -21 C) at night and the humidity below

How To Continue A Strain Through Seeds

Just make sure that the male plants and the female plants are together from only the same strain batch. Do not introduce another strain into the pack. If you only have Silver Haze in your grow room, then all you need are some males and females. By letting the males pollinate the females you will get Silver Haze seeds. But you will loose some of the features that the original parent plants had in the selection of offspring, unless the strain you got was an IBL.

Concealing ifeur Grew Recnn

While controlling the odor of your grow room can be cosdy, concealing your grow room is usually just a matter of planning and attention to detail. The following sections explain a few tips on how keep your grow room from being be seen, heard, or felt. If you've ever seen a grow room you already know that they are both hot and bright, a by-product of the HID lights illuminating the plants. Light leaks are particularly problematic when you have guests visiting that may walk near your grow room. The intense light beaming from the cracks of the door can't be explained away easily because it is far brighter than any ordinary lamp. To check for light leaks you should wait until it's late at night, turn off all of your lights except for the HID lamps, wait for a few minutes for your eyes to adjust and then inspect your grow room from every conceivable angle. You will know a light leak when you see it and it's likely that you will find a few the first time you check. With the main lights...

Stepbij Step Transplanting

When your plants have reached two to three inches and have plenty of white healthy roots, they should be ready to transplant to your hydroponics system. Start by setting your rockwool or oasis cubes in the bottom of your larger pots with the baby plant sticking straight up. Lightly apply grow rocks, loose Rockwool, or any other medium you have decided on, around the Rockwool or Oasis cube until it is completely covered and the pot is full. If possible, add some vitamin B-l or transplant nutrient to your reservoir take to insure that your baby plants will survive the transplant.

CO, generators are less expensive to maintain and less cumbersome, but they have some disadvantages, too. One pound of fuel produces 1.5 pounds of water and 21,800 Btu of heat. For grow rooms less than 400 cubic feet, this makes generators unusable. Even for larger garden rooms, the added heat and humidity must be carefully monitored and controlled so as not to affect plants. Growers in warm climates do not use generators, because they produce too much heat and humidity. If fuel does not bum completely or cleanly, CO, generators can release toxic gases-including carbon monoxide into the grow room. Turn off CO, generators at night. They create excess heat and humidity in the grow room, and they need oxygen to operate. At night, roots need the extra oxygen in the room for continued growth. If you are using CO, and the yield does not increase, check to make sure the entire grow room is running properly and that plants have the proper light and nutrient levels, as well as the correct...

Negative Ion Generators

Negative ions attach to positive ions, and the odor becomes neutralized. The particles fall to the floor and create a fine covering of dust on the ground, walls, and objects in the room. These devices work fairly well for small grow rooms with minimal odor problems. The generator uses very little electricity and plugs into a regular 115-volt current. Visually check the filter every few days, and make sure to keep it clean.

Cutting Down Yeur Plants

Begin by selecting the plants you want to harvest, then chop them down one at a time. Remove the plant from the grow room and then cut the branches into workable sections and place them on your work area. If you are just doing a strip job, that's all the cutting you need to do aside from separating the buds from the branches.

Nutrients Good deals on Nutrients

Grow Lights, Advanced Nutrients, Hydroponic Supplies and more at Hydroempire http www.cheaphydroponics.com Both of these are great sites for nutes but not so well on lights (kind of pricey on that). Hydro systems aren't bad priced but I can't comment on that since I haven't ordered one from either.

Example 2 Backcrossing Incorporating a recessive trait

Backcross derived lines are expected to be well-adapted to the environment in which they will be grown, which is another reason back-crossing is often used by cannabis breeders who operate indoors. Indoor grow rooms are asily replicated all over the world, so the grower is able to grow the plants in a similar environment in which they were bred. Progeny therefore need less extensive field-testing by the breeder across a wide range of environments.

Scrog Growing By Realhigh

The main 3 differences between a SOG and ScrOG grow is the number of plants grown, the screen, and the slightly longer grow cycle of the ScrOG. Both methods can be done under the same light and in soil or with hydroponics. There are many variations of the ScrOG grow, but they all contain the same principles. There are the V-ScrOG, Stadium ScrOG, Flat ScrOG, and the Cylinder ScrOG grows in today's homes. I think you can picture what these look like. They work the same way but just have a different shape.

Misdiagnosed Disorders

Leaf Fringe Medical Marihuana

Many indoor garden problems, and to a lesser degree outdoor problems, are misdiagnosed as a lack of fertilizer. Often, disease and insects cause such problems. Other times, problems are caused by an imbalanced pH of the growing medium and water. A pH between 6.5 and 7 in soil and 5.8 to 6.5 in hydroponics will allow nutrients to be chemically available above or below this range, several nutrients become less available. For example, a full point movement in pH represents a tenfold increase in either alkalinity or acidity. This means that a pH of 5.5 would be ten times more acidic than a pH of 6.5. In soil, a pH below 6.5 may cause a deficiency in calcium, which causes root tips to burn and leaves to get fungal infections and dead spots on foliage. A pH over 7 could slow down the plant's iron intake and result in chlorotic leaves causing veins to yellow. Incorrect pH contributes to most serious nutrient disorders in organic-soil gardens. Many complex biological processes occur between...

Measuring Relative Humidity

The HID lamp and ballast radiate heat, which lowers humidity. Heat from the HID system and a vent fan on a thermostat humidistat are all the humidity control necessary for most grow rooms, Other dry heat sources, such as hot air vented from a furnace or wood stove, dry the air and lower the humidity. Be careful. Do not let piped-in, warm, dry air blow directly on foliage. It will rapidly dehydrate plants. Increase humidity by misting the air with water or setting out a bucket of water to evaporate into the air. A humidifier is convenient and relatively inexpensive. Humidifiers evaporate water into the air to increase humidity. Just set the dial to a specific humidity, and presto The humidity changes to the desired level as soon as the humidifier is able to evaporate enough water into the air. A humidifier is not necessary unless there is an extreme problem with the grow room drying out. Problems seldom occur that can be remedied by a humidifier. All too often, there is too much...

Setting Up the Vent Fan Stepby Step

Step One Figure the total volume of the grow room. Length x width x height total volume. For example, a grow room that is 10 x 10 x 8 leet (21.5 m7) has a total volume of 800 cubic feet (10 x 10 x 8 feet 800 cubic feet (21.5 m2). A room measuring 4x5x2 meters has a total volume of 40 cubic meters. Step Three Place the fan high on a wall or near the ceiling of the grow room so it vents off hot, humid air. An activated charcoal filter is attached to a vent Ian. The air is cleaned before leaving the grow room. An activated charcoal filter is attached to a vent Ian. The air is cleaned before leaving the grow room. Step Five To place a fan in a window, cut a 0.5-inch (1.5 mm) piece of plywood to fit the windowsill. Cover window with a lightproof dark-colored paint or similar covering. Mount the fan near the top of the plywood so it vents air out of the grow room. Secure the plywood and fan in the windowsill with sheet rock screws. Open the window from the bottom. Turning air around a...

High Intensity Discharge HID Lights

Using flat white paint is one of the simplest, least expensive, most efficient ways to create optimum reflection. Artists' titanium white paint is more expensive, but more reflective. While easy to clean, semi-gloss white is not quite as reflective as flat white. Regardless of the type of white used, a non-toxic, fungus-inhibiting agent should be added when the paint is mixed. A gallon of good Hat white paint costs less than 25. One or two gallons should be enough to white out the average grow room. But do not paint the floor white-the reflection is detrimental to tender leaf undersides. Use a primer coat to prevent bleed-through of dark colors or stains or if walls are rough and unpainted. Install the vent fans before painting. Fumes are unpleasant and can cause health problems. Painting is laborintensive and messy, but it's worth the trouble.

Activated Carbon Filters

Carbon filters are available in different sizes to accommodate the various sizes of grow rooms. They are usually made of steel and manufactured in the shape of a long tube. You can usually choose a filter with a specific sized intake flange such as four, six, or eight inches. You can connect your ducting direcdy to this flange. For the stealthiest application, you will want to connect your exhaust fan to your carbon filter using standard duct tubing inside your grow room. Any odor given off by the plants will be sucked into the exhaust fan, sent through the filter, then back into the grow room along with fresh air brought in through the air intake vent. Since carbon filters can be quite large, many growers place them outside of the grow room, but still out of plain view. The exhaust fan still pushes all of the grow room air through the filter via ducting, but the air doesn't go back directly into the grow room. Growers prefer this option because it ensures that their plants get as...

Step Six Install a Vent

Pipe Insert Into Roof

A vent fan is necessary in virtually all grow rooms. See Air Ventilation and Air Ducting in Chapter 9 for more information. Most grow rooms require some sort of odor control (see Step Seven, page 146) to keep it secure from cops and robbers. In this case, the fan will need to be more powerful to draw air through a charcoal filter if one is used to clean the air. Often one of the biggest obstacles to constructing a grow room is where and how to run the exit ducting with a minimum of work and structural damage. If cutting into a ceiling with a crawl space, make sure you have a method to evacuate the grow room air from the crawl space. Install louvers below the rafters on the outside wall of the house. Tap into ABS plastic sewer drain vents and insert the extraction vent. Make sure that you are tapping into the ventilation pipe rather than the actual sewer pipe. Install a backflow vent in the extraction duct so that foul-smelling odors do not invade the grow room. Tap into ABS plastic...

Step Seven Neutralize Odors

Neutralize the fragrance of flowering marijuana before air is vented from the grow room so that odors do not cause security problems. The most popular and effective method is to use an activated charcoal filter attached to a vent fan. Unless made from new lightweight carbon-impregnated material, carbon filters can be quite heavy and require stout mounting. Make sure to choose the right one for your grow area so you don't have to mount a filter that is too heavy. For example, a carbon filter rated at 200 cfm is more than adequate for the average closet grow room. It is also a good idea to mask any lingering odors with a strong air freshener or a host of odor masking products. Check with your local hydroponic store for more information on such products. Search hydroponic store on www.google.com.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Consider using vinegar and baking soda to produce CO, in a small grow room. This method eliminates excess heat and water vapor production and requires only household items. Create a system that drips vinegar (acetic acid) into a bed of baking soda. The main disadvantage of this system is the erratic level of CO, produced. It takes a considerable amount of time for the CO, to build up to a level where it helps plants. However, once it reaches an optimum level, it can continue to rise until it reaches levels detrimental to plants. If you have time to experiment, it is possible to set up a drip system operated by a solenoid valve and a short-term timer. With such a system, CO , could be released periodically in small increments and coordinated with ventilation schedules.

Mother Clone Room Design

Mothers Rooms Cannabis

Although less common, there are even grow rooms on wheels Some innovative growers have remodeled trailer houses and buses into grow rooms. One of my favorite grow rooms was in a tricked-out trailer. Another was in a 60-foot (18 m) sailing yacht The grow room's size determines the size and the number of lamps. High intensity discharge (HID) lamps that work well to grow marijuana are available in wattages of 150, 175, 250, 400, 600, 1000, and 1100. Smaller wattages from 150-400, work well in closets or spaces with 9-21 square feet (0.8-2 m2) of floor space. Use 600-watt and larger bulbs for larger The drawings show several grow room floor plans. As the floor plans demonstrate, there are several basic approaches to grow room design and production. Most growers start out with a crop grown in a single room. After they harvest the crop, they introduce a new batch of clones. The photoperiod is switched back to 18 hours, and the cycle continues. Take a little time to set up your grow room so...

Cloning For a Continuous Harvest

With this new information, I set out to try a genetic experiment. I placed 15 different types of female plants in my grow room and crossed them to 2 of the male NYC Diesel's. Each of the males was showing their slightly different phenotypes. One had the internodes closer together with wider leaves, and the other had more stretch to the internodes with thinner leaves. What I did was put both males in the room with the females, and as the pollen flew, the two of them pollinated all the plants.I put the females into a 12-hour cycle one week before I put the males in. This gives the female plants a head start, allowing them to put on a little resin before getting pollinated. This way at the end when all the seeds are taken out, the material left over will make excellent water hash.

Twisting Leaves Using Triple F Hydrotops

The first seeds I germinated between wet paper towels in Petri dishes that would have been around the beginning of February. After germination all the seedlings were put into small pots that were filled with ordinary potting soil. The grow room was a small cupboard with two 18 Watt bulbs inside, which ensured enough light The first growing method that I became familiar with was growing on water, or hydroponic growing as it's known. A friend of mine who back then was older than I am now gave me a book, 'The Marijuana Horticulture Bible' by Jorge Cervantes. I was about 15 years old and a heavy smoker. Growing cannabis had always appealed to me, and now I have succeeded in finally getting my own grow room together in which I can grow a reasonable quality of cannabis for myself. I've still only been growing a year, but enjoying picking it up. I'm just really going for it as best I can, to the maximum of my own capabilities. With the 'scrog' method I managed to get 0.9 grams per watt. I...

Power growing with 28000 watts

Up to the present I have grown many varieties of cannabis, so many that I have completely lost count in fact. If I had to take a guess, I'd say I have certainly had at least 100 varieties in my grow room at some time or other. I have a few favourites that I especially love to grow. Breeder Steve's Spice of Life varieties such as Sweettooth 3, Shiskaberry and Ultimate Indica in particular are a pleasure to grow and smoke. I still have a few Blockhead seeds from him lying around waiting to be tried out. On top of that, I grow a lot of BC (British Columbia) Hashplant and Chemo in my gardens. These are favourites among my friends, plus both weeds look terrific. This is something that is very important around here, because the better the weed looks the easier it is to sell. The BC Hashplant is my all-time favourite for growing commercially. I have tried earth beds, hydro tables, soil in pots, and hydro-buckets for growing cannabis. The earth bed system is my favourite for raising a lot of...

Experimenting with cold temperatures

So this time I'm not going to heat my grow room during the winter months. I am curious as to how the plants will perform. That they will produce something is certain, but the question remains whether this will result in a massive difference or not. How is the THC production of the plant at such temperatures In any case, I'll get the chance to learn something new, and if seeing is believing, then it's by doing that you learn. If you want to strongly improve your yields then you do it not by hanging extra lamps or planting extra plants, but make sure you are starting with a good clone as your basis. Growing with inferior plants leads to inferior yields. A commercial grower can also achieve top harvests growing from seed by changing his growing methods drastically. Rather than working with a large number of tiny plants you can do just as well to grow a few mamoth plants with a longer growth period that can take advantage of higher levels of light. Then you have plants 1 metre x 1 metre x...

What are common contaminants of the mushroom culture

Adults are small (1 8 inch long), fragile grayish to black flies with long, slender legs and thread-like antennae. Their wings are clear or smoky-colored with no pattern and few distinct veins. Larvae are clear to creamy-white and can grow to about 1 4 inch long. They have shiny black head capsules. They are attracted to the mushroom crop and their larvae feed directly on mycelium, swarm over the mushroom, and tunnel into the developing or developed mushroom. Tissues that have been physically damaged by flies often become colonized by bacteria which cause soft rot, thereby accentuating the problem. Controls include strict sanitation and general farm hygiene. For example, the grow room must be air tight. Fresh air that is used is filtered. Even a small crack will serve as an entry for the flies. Most farms use sticky tape or some other method that allows monitoring of populations. A biocontrol using nematodes offers effective control when populations of flies are low. In addition to...

Growing Medium Moisture

The Basics Of Plant Care

Case of hydroponics in conjunction with a ScrOG grow, then you may have to tie your plants up so that they do not bend. Training is done by simply attaching a piece of thread to the stem and bending the plant over. The thread is then locked down to either another part of the stem or a piece of the grow room frame. People have managed to grow all kinds of shaped plants using this method - from corkscrew shapes to complete full circles. Some growers even like to grow their plants horizontally across during the vegetative stage of growth. During the flowering cycle the light is moved above the plant to encourage thicker bud growth along the main stem. Sometimes this method does not work so well, but when it does the overall bud production can be excellent. Lumens And Marituana Growing

You do not want to go less than 2500 Lumens, even for one plant. You want to get the best so you need to hit the 45000 mark or more. In general one light that casts 45000 lumens is enough to cover a workspace of about 3 feet by 3 feet. This is quite an average space and you will probably get anything between 6-9 plants in that area. Again we must keep in mind the strain that we are growing. One large Sativa plant can cover a 9 square foot grow area in no time. Short Indica plants are different. You can get maybe 12 plants into a 9 square foot grow area. If you really want to pump up your plants then you may consider a lamp that casts 100,000 Lumens or more. If you want a bigger grow area then you may consider 2 lamps that cast 100,000 Lumens each. All is relative to how much you want to grow and the size of your grow room. Over time you will understand more about grow rooms and how to light them properly. With experience you should be able to tell what light suits your needs. As a...

Indoor Pot Growing For Dummies

By starting with growing outdoors you will build up a wealth of knowledge that will serve you later if and when you start to grow indoors. The great outdoors is in short the ideal grow room for beginners, who will be enjoy the many surprises they will encounter as they help their plants to thrive. Especially if you plant your babies in solid earth, when you will have little else to except sit around on your lazy butt and wait for them to ripen for harvest the climatic factors you can continuously be working towards a maximum yield of top quality weed. You can control the temperature by letting the air pumps operate at a certain level, the optimum air moisture content can be reached by installing an air humidifier, and a good air flow by putting one or more ventilators in your grow room. In the next edition we'll be looking at the pro's and cons of organic versus hydroponic growing, and making clones on demand. This is a little bit earlier than I

Growing for Dummies pan

This time around you're finally going to learn what the differences organic and hydroponically grown cannabis are, plus I'll be giving you some insight into the art of clone making. Hydro or hydroponic growing is growing in a water medium with nutrients added to it, or with an automatic irrigation system. Thanks to the greater quantities of oxygen that are brought to the roots as a result, the plant grows at a very fast rate. Much quicker than in soil. But you do have to invest more in your kit if you want to grow hydroponically special pipes, connectors and suchlike need to be bought. Also you have to fully control the pH and EC yourself, so there is less room for mistakes than there is growing in soil. You can rapidly fix things that have gone wrong with your plants, but things can go wrong quickly enough to lose them all too.

Stepby Step Construction

Grow Room Weed Small

Once you know how much you want to grow and where you want to grow, you are ready to design your grow room or purchase a ready-made room. I like to draw the room to scale on paper before constructing it. _ v This grow setup also has two grow rooms clone vegetative and flowering. A 400-watt lamp illuminates the flowering room and four 40-watt fluorescents light the clone vegetative room. The side-by-side orientation of the rooms allows the vegetative room to be taller and narrower and the closet a little wider. The higher profile of the flowering room allows space for a hydroponic reservoir below. It also provides space above and below for appliances and storage.

There are many ways to grow your cannabis plant indoors. The two core methods of indoor growing are soil growing and hydroponics. There is a separate chapter for hydroponics, and so this chapter will deal with soil growing. Figure 5.1 - Indoor Grow room. Picture by RealHigh. Figure 5.1 - Indoor Grow room. Picture by RealHigh. Lights come in all shapes, sizes, wattage and type. A full indoor grow lighting kit should contain the following items. Bulb, reflector, ballast, timer and electrical inputs outputs. Plants are green, which means that Plants absorb light at the middle of the spectrum (Orange to Indigo). Cannabis plants need this part of the light spectrum to reach full growing potential. The intensity of the light is also important. A light that feeds the full bandwidth with all light spectrums will work very well - like sunlight. When dealing with artificial lights it is better to choose a light that concentrates its intensity on the top part of the spectrum. The most common...

Advanced Indoor Soil Based Grow Methods

These methods do not have to be soil based, one can use hydroponics instead but soil is generally the most widely used medium with these set-ups. A SOG set-up can be any size but must maintain a certain overall shape. First of all you need to grow some plants normally first. Wait until you see flowers and then select the nicest female you can find. Take cuttings from this female mother plant and grow the cuttings out until they have roots. When you do take multiple cuttings try create as many plants as you can fit into your grow set-up. In SOG grows we are looking a 1 plant per square foot or even one plant per 0.10 square feet. So that should be a good estimate as to how many clones you will need. Now, we want to look at pots here first. What we really need are tube shaped pots or pots that have a longer depth than width. You can make these yourself or buy these pots in the store. All we want to do is pack in as many pots with plants as we can into the SOG grow chamber. It is just a...

Nutrient Solution Burn

There's a good chance that this leaf was subjected to nutrient solution burn. These symptoms are seen when the EC concentration of hydroponic solutions is too high. These symptoms also appear when strong nutrient solution is splashed onto the leaves under hot HID lamps, causing the leaves to burn under the solution. Many hydroponic gardeners see this problem. It's the beginning of nutrient burn. It indicates that the plants have all the nutrients they can possibly use, and there's a slight excess. Back off the concentration of the nutrient solution just a touch and the problem should disappear. Note that if the plants never get any worse than this leaf (figure 3), then the plants are probably just fine. Figure 4 is definitely an over-fert problem. The high level of nutrients accumulates in the leaves and causes them to dry out and burn up as shown here. You must flush with clear, clean water immediately to allow the roots to recover, and prevent further damage. Now find the cause of...

Better Growth And Disease Protection

PHC Biopak (TM) is a biostimulant containing several strains of bacteria that live in symbiosis with the plant roots. PHC Biopak promotes fast root development (which increases plant growth and uptake of fertilizer), increases bioactivity in the medium and reduces plant susceptibility to disease. A one-pound jar costs 25 from Plant Health Care. PHC Healthy Start (TM) 3-4-3 is derived from bone, blood and kelp meal, rice bran and other natural fertilizers. The formula, 3-4-3, is a good mix for start-ups and clones as it promotes rooting. The natural ingredients provide complete micronutrients for soil and soilless media. What makes this blend truly unique is hydroponic medium or a planting mix. Hydroponic gardeners use a medium such as clay pellets, foam rubber or spun rock, all of which are virtually nutrient-free, and add nutrients by using water-soluble fertilizers. Planting mixes can also be fed with water, but quite often they are composed of...

Outdoor Growing

Outdoor Rooftop Marijuana

Cannabis growing is really fun because the more you know, the more tricks you will invent by yourself to get the most out of your yields. Some of the best cannabis growers are very exotic with their grow methods. A number of people have even tried outdoor hydroponics to get their plants to grow bigger and better.

Variety is the spice of life

Via this insight we arrive at our next purchase a suction pump with an active carbon filter. Cannabis plants need carbon dioxide (CO2) in order to grow, which they take out of the air around them. If you do not allow fresh supplies of air to the room they are growing in, then sooner or later they are going to use it all up. Once that happens the plant growth is retarded and it will be less healthy. To prevent this happening we make sure that fresh air enters the grow room by putting in an air extractor. This sucks the CO2-depleted air and expels it outside, causing fresh, CO2-laden air to automatically flow into the space. In other words, you do not necessarily need a pump to blow fresh air back into you grow space. You can if you wish, but it is not essential.

Predators And Pests

CLEANING THE GROW ROOM It does happen that sometimes the bugs win. No matter how much you might spray them or try to kill them, they keep coming back to your grow room. To solve this you will have to create a clean room, which means a total and complete cull of your harvest. First set-up another grow room of smaller size. Enough to support some cuttings and clones. If your floor can be lifted up, then you can also do this to get in at the corners a bit better. before returning them to the grow room. Dry down your other grow equipment which...

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) is the best measurement of the nutrient concentration of a hydroponic solution. To estimate TDS, one can use a meter that measures the Electric Conductivity (EC) of a solution, and convert the number to TDS in parts per million (PPM). Many meters will do this conversion.

Ecological Cannabis Growing

Can keep throwing extra kilowatts of electricity into a grow room, in the hope that it might increase the overall yield, and in many cases it will, but at what cost If when the costs of a room exceed the crop-return, something might be wrong. Not only is it possible for a grower to waste energy, but they also loose out on some buds. Many indoor growers like tojudge levels of efficiency against a 'grams per watt' figure that discounts all the other electrical inputs that make a crop possible (we'll come onto this in a minute). A 'gramsper watt per month' figure actually offers a far more realistic overview of the efficiency displayed by both light-source and grower. That is, how many weeks does it take to yield 1.2g per watt We'd imagine that the differential between an 8week indica and a 15week sativa are immense when it comes to calculations like this. Perhaps we'll leave the number counting to the accountants once again. Now we can get onto all that other electrical stuff that helps...

Proliferation Of Grow Houses In Residential Areas and

In recent years the proliferation of grow houses in residential neighborhoods has exploded. This phenomenon is country wide, and ranges from the purchase for purpose of marijuana grow operations of small dwellings to high priced McMansions . . . . Mushrooming residential marijuana grow operations have been detected in California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas. In 2007 alone, such illegal operations were detected and shut down by federal and state law enforcement officials in 41 houses in California, 50 homes in Florida, and 11 homes in New Hampshire.75 Since then, the number of residences discovered to be so impacted has increased exponentially. Part of this recent influx of illicit residential grow operations is because the THC-rich 'B.C. bud' strain of marijuana originally produced in British Columbia cane grown only in controlled indoor environments, and the Canadian market is now reportedly saturated with the product...

Photographers use common items that can be bought in most hardware shops to make their film-processing rooms light tight. If you can replicate their ideas (basically a thick black screening...

Step Two Assess electrical needs

Refer to Marijuana Horticulture The Indoor Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible for more information on electrical circuits in larger grow rooms. Circuit breaker box showing 20-, 50-, and 100-amp breakers This large circuit box from a North American garden is full of breaker switches that meter 120 volts of electricity at 60 cycles to a home with a grow room. If you are lucky, you already have a small, enclosed room if not, it is easy to enclose a room so that you can control everything inside. However, many growers choose to set up a grow area in an unused corner of a larger room. There are many examples of partially enclosed and unenclosed grow rooms in Chapter 11. Enclose a grow room by framing it with boards, usually 2 X 4s (5 X 10 cm), or use Mecalux (see photo on the right). Once the superstructure is set up, cover it with Visqueen plastic, plywood, or Sheetrock. The room's finish on the outside depends upon your security needs. Rooms covered with Visqueen are difficult to keep a...

Stealth Trash Disposal

You might think that waiting until the moment the trash collector drives down your street is a good time to put your trash out. Unfortunately, you aren't the only one who knows about this technique. One way to confirm a house is used for growing is to watch how the owner deals with his trash. Warrants have been signed for this type of behavior, so it's wise to not to have any of your grow room trash associated with your home.

Creating an Air Intake Source

Regardless of the sophistication of your air intake source, the location should be at one end of garden, usually at the opposite end from the exhaust fan system, near the floor. Also remember that cold intake air can harm crops and hot air cant cool the garden, so your situation may require ducting to another room not directly connected to the grow room.

Protecting if our Floor

A little pre-planning before you actually install and set up your hydroponics system can prevent or entirely eliminate the possibility of water reaching your floor. The most basic preventative measure is to buy a waterproof drop cloth like the ones used by painters. These will protect your floor from small leaks and spills, but not much else. The best option is to buy a cheap children's pool from a toy store, preferably one that doesn't inflate. Other than to swim in, they are perfectly designed to contain a hydroponics reservoir. Now, no matter what happens to your big tank of water and nutrients, the furthest they could spill would be the kiddie pool. If a large water spill occurs, you can drain the pool by using a wet dry vacuum. To place the oscillating fans, you can mount some platforms to the walls. As mentioned in the Fans chapter, two fans is an absolute minimum. You need one fan to move air above the canopy of leaves, so place it high. The other fan is placed just above the...

The Basics Of Indoor Environment Control

During vegetative growth and flowering, cannabis plants love to get fresh air. Always keep a window open and let your grow room refresh itself every day. The fresher the air the better. Also during the dry periods, in between watering, the roots like to breathe. Fresh air is always the best air. During winter you may want to reduce the time you leave the temperatures for growing cannabis in. The best meter for temperature control is the human body. If you find it is too cold in your grow room then so will your plants. 75 degrees Fahrenheit is what you should aim for. Slightly warmer rooms do help plants to grow a bit quicker. Use a thermometer to analyse your room's temperature. If too cold, turn on the heating. If too hot, open a window and maybe even use a fan.

Blossom Bags Cannabis Pollen

Also, many an outdoor grower has actually seen his or her marihuana patch ruined in front of their own eyes by pollen. For outdoor growers there is absolutely no escape if something like this (a rain of male pollen) occurs. Indoor growers by contrast can, by using a very fine filter, limit the damage to less than disastrous levels. Another tip is to make sure that any air sucked into the grow room from outside is drawn from as close to the ground as possible. Most pollen is to be found drifting up in the air rather than wafting along the ground, and recognising this can save many

We would have a situation where there were large differences in temperature between the day (when the lamps are on) and the night (when the lamps are off). During the day the extractor would most probably work fine, because it would be removing all the warm air as much as possible out of the space. In the dark period, so when the lamps are not on, then the temperature in the grow room naturally will fall, thanks to which allowing the extractor to churn away at full speed would be pointless. Even more seriously, allowing the extractor to Staying with the air extractor installation issue for a moment, it is also advisable to let the extractor operate via a so-called step thermostat. This is actually a sort of switch mechanism that makes sure that the extractor speeds up or slows down step-wise (depending on whether the temperature is too high or not) and so whether it does or does not suck (more) air in to the grow room. This works really well, given that now we are able to keep the...

More Free Growing Light

Installing rolling beds will remove all but one walkway from the garden. Greenhouse growers learned long ago to save space. We can use the same Information to increase usable grow space in a grow room. Gardens with elevated growing beds often waste light on walkways. To make use of more growing area place two, two-inch (6 cm) pipes or wooden dowels below the grow-

About This Book

Finally, some of you will become obsessed, not with marijuana itself, but with growing marijuana. Like a gear head is to a Camaro, you will constantly be on the lookout for ways to automate your grow room and increase your yields. It can be an expensive obsession, but everyone needs a hobby. While this book was designed to be read cover-to-cover, you don't have to remember each and every detail or aspect of growing as you read through it. It's far better to get a basic understanding of how the plant grows naturally and what it's going to take to grow it indoors. Then, you can start designing your grow room and then put the pieces together one-by-one, chapter-by-chapter, learning what you need as you go along. This book starts out with the basics. First, you find out how marijuana grows naturally in the outdoors, including the stages of growth and the simple processes that turn a tiny seed into a bud producing plant. It explains how hydroponics works and why people use it to grow...

People interested in growing indoors are often intimidated by the word hydroponics. The word itself sounds technical, complex, and expensive, but for the purposes of growing a small number of plants in a closet or basement, it really isn't. The following are some basic questions and misconceptions about what hydroponics is and how regular, everyday people can use it to their benefit. Is hydroponics a new technology Hydroponics is not a new technology, it is has been in general use for thousands of years. The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt enjoyed fruits and vegetables grown hydroponically. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, The Hanging Gardens, was in fact a hydroponic garden. Hydroponics is not new, just different. Plant growth is a real and natural occurrence. Plants require basic, natural things for normal growth. Simply put, hydroponics supplies the plant with what it needs, when it needs it. There is no genetic mutation that takes place inside the equipment, nor are there any...

Whats Wrer With Seil

With hydroponics, water is enriched with these very same nutrient salts, but the hydroponic nutrient solution is contained. Hydroponics solution doesn't harm our environment, as does runoff from fertilized soil. Additionally, very little water is lost to evaporation in a hydroponic system. Beyond all the technical benefits of using a hydroponic medium, soil can be extremely messy to work with, especially indoors.

Rooting Mediums

Set cut stems in rockwool, Jiffy (peat), Oasis root cubes, or fine soilless mix. All cubes are convenient and easy to transplant. Some growers report rockwool cubes stay too wet to make clones. Other growers love them. You can also use small containers or nursery flats full of coarse washed sand, fine vermiculite, soilless mix, or, if nothing else is available, fine potting soil.
