The roots of Menispermum dauricum DC. (Menispermaceae) are used for treating sore throats, colitis, dysentery, and rheumatic arthralgia in TEM. This herb contains some alkaloids belonging to various classes such as bisbenzylisoquinoline, apor-phine, proporphine, protoberberine, and oxoisoaporphine.
Phenolic alkaloids from M. dauricum could attenuate injury caused by left anterior descending coronary artery and BCAo in rabbit by lipid peroxidation and enhance the activity of SOD . Daurisoline, which has been isolated from M. dauricum, crosses the blood-brain barrier and will, therefore, facilitate the functional characterization of brain calcium channels in granule cells freshly isolated from rat cerebellum as well as the exploration of P-type calcium channels as possible drug targets .
