How to increase cannabis potency during growth

When it comes to growing cannabis, one of the most important factors that you might want to control is that of the potency of the cannabis. During the growth period of cannabis, there are a number of different factors that you can control in order to ensure that your cannabis plants give you crops with the desired level of potency and strength.

But how can you work to increase the potency of your cannabis plants during their growth period? What factors should you consider in order to improve the overall potency of your cannabis strains?

Improving the Potency: Factors to Consider

There are a number of different factors that you should consider in order to improve the potency of your cannabis plants. The most notable of these factors starts from before you have even planted your cannabis seeds: if you want cannabis that will pack a good kick when taken, then you need to choose a strain of cannabis that will be able to deliver this powerful high.

Different strains of cannabis plants will naturally contain a different level of the chemical compound, THC. THC is responsible for the strength of the high that you will experience when taking cannabis; as such, increasing the amount (potency) of THC in the plants will result in a far superior high.

However, the plant will only be able to produce a certain amount of THC, based on its genetics. Different strains are naturally predisposed to producing a different amounts of THC and will be unable to exceed this genetic potential; as such, if you want the highest possible potency from your cannabis plants, you should buy seeds that are genetically selected to have a specific potency.

The highest potency strains can have a THC content of anywhere between 20% and 25%. If you really want the most powerful possible high, these are the plants for you—but if you happen to have a strain of cannabis seed that only offers a THC content of 15% or so, there are still steps that you can take in order to ensure that the plants are as potent as they can possibly be.

How To Increase Potency

Aside from just selecting a high potency strain of cannabis seeds, there are also a number of other ways in which you can work to increase the potency of your crop. Indeed, even the most potent cannabis strains need to be grown in a careful manner in order to allow them to reach their genetic potential for potency.

The first thing that you should always do is to ensure that you are harvesting your cannabis at the right time. Many growers are too impatient when it comes to harvesting their crops and will do so before the plant is at its highest possible potency; instead, for the highest THC content, you should always take care to harvest your buds when they have begun to mature, during their flowering stage; this time frame is characterized by the appearance of milky white resin glands on the marijuana buds themselves.

In addition to this, one of the easiest ways to ensure that your buds are potent and high in THC is simply to keep the crops themselves healthy. Healthy plants should be well watered, but not watered excessively to the point that they might drown. Additionally, the crops should also be provided with plenty of nutrients and grown in the right conditions (i.e. with the right amount of light and warmth).

An essential part of ensuring that your crops are healthy and are growing well is to provide them with light cycles (when grown indoors) that are regular and predictable, as this will help to ensure that the plants develop and mature as expected. While cannabis plants are hardy, it is important to remember that you have made a huge investment with your crops and should not leave them to their own devices; poorly cared for cannabis plants will most likely survive—but they won’t thrive, and they definitely won’t give you the high that you want!

Once the buds have been harvested, there is very little that you can do to further increase the potency—but you should always cure the buds carefully in glass mason jars in order to give the buds that one last push for potency!
